Lexicon Manual

The place to learn everything about Lexicon. Be sure to read about the Lexicon workflow.

Mobile App

The Lexicon mobile app is available on iOS & Android and is focused on letting you do the manual tasks on the go. You can listen to your tracks, set your cues, grids and tags, and create playlists. Your changes are synced back to Lexicon on your computer.

The mobile app is available on the Essential and Ultimate plans. On the Free plan, the Mobile App page in Lexicon shows a locked Get started button.

Syncing with Lexicon

Syncing happens over your WiFi network, between the mobile app and Lexicon on your computer.

  1. In Lexicon, open the Mobile App page from the sidebar (or Go ➡ Mobile App in the top menu bar).
  2. Choose what to sync and, if needed, select the playlists (see below).
  3. Make sure your phone is on the same WiFi network as your computer. Open the mobile app and press Sync with Lexicon. It should automatically find Lexicon.
  4. The mobile app shows what will be synced. Press Sync now.

Keep the Mobile App page open in Lexicon while syncing. Navigating away from that page stops the sync.

Manual connection

If the mobile app doesn't find Lexicon automatically, you can connect manually. The Mobile App page in Lexicon shows the IP address of your computer. Enter it in the mobile app.

What to sync

On the Mobile App page you choose one of these:

  • Sync Selected Playlists: the selected playlists and all their music files are downloaded to your phone. Syncing may take a while, because tracks are analyzed if needed and waveform data is generated. It's best to only sync the playlists you need.
  • Sync Selected Playlists (Cloud Files Only): the selected playlists are synced, but no music files are copied to your phone. Only tracks that you've uploaded to Cloud Storage are playable, and they are downloaded when you play them.
  • Sync Full Library (Cloud Files Only): your entire library is synced to the mobile app, without music files. Only tracks in Cloud Storage are playable. You can still edit track information and create playlists for tracks that are not in the cloud.

Changes made on your phone

Sync works both ways. Any changes you made in the mobile app are imported into Lexicon during the sync, according to your merge strategies on the Mobile App page:

Track merge strategy: which track information wins.

  • Mobile metadata, if more recently changed
  • Mobile metadata, always
  • Do not change track metadata

Playlist merge strategy: which playlist contents win.

  • Mobile playlists, if more recently changed
  • Mobile playlists, always
  • Do not change playlists

Playlists you create in the mobile app are added to Lexicon in the Lexicon/Mobile playlist folder.

If you delete a playlist in Lexicon but it still exists in the mobile app, it can come back with the next sync. Delete it in the mobile app too, or use Cleanup after sync (see below).

Options in the mobile app

  • Cleanup after sync: deletes tracks and playlists from your phone that are not part of this sync.
  • Upload only: only sends your changes from the phone to Lexicon, without downloading anything.

Troubleshooting

If the mobile app can't connect or a sync fails:

  • Check that your phone and computer are on the same WiFi network.
  • Firewall: a firewall or security software on your computer is the most common reason the app can't connect. Allow Lexicon through your firewall, for example in Windows Defender Firewall or in the firewall of your antivirus. On macOS, allow incoming connections for Lexicon if macOS asks.
  • Router (client isolation): some routers block devices on the same network from talking to each other. This is called client isolation or AP isolation, and it is often on for guest networks, public WiFi and some office networks. Use your normal home network, or turn client isolation off in your router settings.
  • Keep the Mobile App page open in Lexicon during the sync.
  • Try the manual connection with the IP address shown in Lexicon.
