Rekordbox to Traktor

Convert your Rekordbox library to Traktor with Lexicon.

Move your entire Rekordbox library into Traktor Pro with Lexicon — playlists, hot cues, beatgrids, ratings, and tags come across. Free, Windows and macOS.

This guide covers Rekordbox 6 and 7 as the source, and Traktor Pro 3 or 4 as the target. Traktor DJ (the limited free version) is not supported by Lexicon.

Requirements

You need to have these installed:

  • Rekordbox 6 or 7 (Rekordbox 5 supported via XML)
  • Traktor Pro 3 or 4, launched at least once
  • Lexicon — free for library conversion

Lexicon runs on Windows and macOS.

Steps to convert Rekordbox to Traktor

The process has two parts: import your Rekordbox library into Lexicon, then sync it to Traktor.

Part 1 — Import from Rekordbox

  1. Close both Rekordbox and Traktor completely. Background processes must terminate for the databases to be readable.
  2. Open Lexicon and go to the Sync page.
The Sync page in Lexicon
  1. Click Import tracks & playlists at the bottom.
Import tracks & playlists button in Lexicon
  1. Choose Rekordbox from the dropdown. Lexicon auto-detects the database.
Selecting Rekordbox as the source in the Lexicon import dropdown
  1. Leave Full selected to import your entire library.

  1. Click Start importing. Your Rekordbox library now lives in Lexicon.

Part 2 — Sync to Traktor

  1. Go back to the Sync page (don't click Import again).
  2. Choose Traktor from the dropdown. Lexicon auto-detects the Traktor database.
Selecting Traktor as the sync target in Lexicon
  1. Leave Full selected. Leave the other options on their defaults.

  1. Click Sync to Traktor. Wait for it to finish.

When it completes, open Traktor and your full library is there — playlists, cues, beatgrids and tags intact.

What transfers from Rekordbox to Traktor

ItemTransfersNotes
Playlists & folder structureYesYour Rekordbox playlist hierarchy is preserved 1:1 in Traktor.
Intelligent playlistsPartialRekordbox stores intelligent playlists as normal playlists in its XML, so Lexicon can't always distinguish them. They import as normal playlists and can be converted back into Lexicon smartlists manually.
Hot cuesYesBoth apps support 8 hot cues. Labels carry across.
Memory cuesMerged into hot cuesTraktor has no memory cues. Rekordbox memory cues merge into the cue list in Lexicon. Enable memory cues in Lexicon settings to keep them separate if you plan to round-trip back to Rekordbox.
Hot cue colorsLost on displayTraktor has no colored cue points. Colors are stored by Lexicon but Traktor won't display them.
BeatgridsYesGrid markers and BPM transfer. Traktor's strict grid enforcement means some Rekordbox grids may need nudging after sync.
LoopsYes (one active)Traktor supports one active loop per track.
Remix SetsNoRemix Sets are Traktor-only. Nothing in Rekordbox maps to them.
Track metadataYesTitle, artist, album, genre, BPM, key, comments, ratings, custom tags.
Album artYesEmbedded art transfers. WAV files are unreliable for art in Rekordbox — consider re-tagging in Traktor after sync.

Notes specific to Rekordbox → Traktor

Close Rekordbox completely

Rekordbox keeps background processes (rekordbox and rekordboxAgent) running after you close the window. Lexicon can't read the database while they're alive. If import hangs, force-quit them via Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (macOS).

Hot cues vs memory cues

Rekordbox has both hot cues and memory cues. Traktor only has hot cues. Lexicon merges memory cues into the cue list by default. If you want to preserve memory cues separately (for round-trip back to Rekordbox later), enable memory cues in Lexicon's DJ app features before importing.

Cue point colors are lost in Traktor

Traktor does not render cue point colors. The color data is stored in Lexicon and will come back if you sync to an app that does support it (Rekordbox, Serato, Engine DJ) — but in Traktor itself your cues will all look the same.

Intelligent playlists are not preserved as smart lists

Rekordbox's XML stores intelligent playlists as plain playlists, so Lexicon can't automatically know which ones were smart. They'll land in Traktor as normal playlists. If you need them back as smart playlists in Lexicon, re-create the rules after import.

Rekordbox 5 vs 6/7

Rekordbox 6 and 7 import via Lexicon's direct database integration — fast and full-fidelity. Rekordbox 5 requires an XML export from Rekordbox's Preferences → Advanced panel. See the Rekordbox 5 XML guide for the workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Will my cue colors appear in Traktor?

No — Traktor has no colored cue points. Lexicon stores the color anyway, so if you later sync back to Rekordbox, Serato, or Engine DJ, the colors will return.

Do Rekordbox intelligent playlists become Traktor smart playlists?

Not reliably. Rekordbox's XML doesn't distinguish intelligent playlists from normal ones, so they come across as regular playlists. You can rebuild them as Lexicon smartlists, which do sync to Traktor.

Does this work for Traktor Pro 4?

Yes. Lexicon supports Traktor Pro 3 and 4. Traktor DJ is not supported.

What about Remix Sets?

Lexicon does not support Remix Sets (they're Traktor-exclusive). If your Rekordbox library has nothing remotely similar, there's nothing to preserve — but don't expect Remix Sets to appear in Traktor after this conversion.

Does this work on macOS?

Yes. The process is identical on Windows and macOS.

Can I go back to Rekordbox later?

Yes. Your Rekordbox library is not touched during import. You can also run Traktor to Rekordbox later to sync changes the other way.

Converting from a different app, or to a different app?

Library conversion is 100% free. No credit card required.
