(Windows) Unable to execute this process / blocked by Windows Defender

This guide is only for Windows users that encounter the "Unable to execute process" error, or see that Windows Defender is blocking a process called lexicon-tagger.exe.

Windows Defender is blocking lexicon-tagger.exe

Follow these steps to whitelist the process in Defender:

1. Start Lexicon, open Task Manager, right click Lexicon and choose Open file location. This opens the folder Lexicon is installed in. Copy the folder path from the address bar.
2. Close Lexicon fully.
3. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings.
4. In Exclusions, choose Add or remove exclusions → Add an exclusion → File.
5. Browse to the Lexicon folder from step 1, then to resources\app.asar.unpacked\lib\lexicon-tagger\lexicon-tagger.exe.
6. Confirm and start Lexicon again. Import and sync should now work.

"An Application Control policy has blocked this file"

If Windows says an Application Control policy has blocked Lexicon itself (Lexicon.exe), the block comes from Smart App Control, not from Windows Defender. A Defender exclusion does not help in this case.

You can check this in Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control settings. If Smart App Control is on and keeps blocking Lexicon, the only option Windows offers is to turn Smart App Control off. Read the warning Windows shows before you do this. If you are unsure, contact support.
