October was a big month for anyone who cares about beatgrids. Serato shipped its biggest analysis change in years, AlphaTheta pushed rekordbox into DAW territory, and Apple Music users on AlphaTheta gear now have a hard deadline to update. Here is what changed and what it means for your library.
Software
Serato DJ 5.0: Lucid Beatgrids, Open Streaming and Cue Loops
Serato DJ 5.0 left beta and went to general release on October 20, 2026 (The Drop). The headline features:
- Lucid Beatgrids: a rebuilt analysis engine with improved downbeat detection and, for the first time in Serato, automatic tempo tracking. Grids can now follow tracks that drift, such as live drums, disco and older recordings. Existing grids are kept; you re-analyze a track to use the new engine.
- Open Streaming: multiple streaming accounts in one session. Each service shows up as its own crate, and you pick which service to search from a dropdown next to the search bar. Serato lists Beatport, Tidal, SoundCloud and Spotify (Serato DJ Pro downloads).
- Cue Loops: one pad press jumps to a cue and starts a loop from it. It is off by default; enable it under DJ Preferences in Setup (Serato support).
- iOS Transfer: moves crates and songs, including cue points and beatgrids, from your laptop to Serato DJ for iOS.
What to do with your library: do not re-analyze everything the night before a gig. Re-analyzing replaces a grid you may have spent time fixing. Test Lucid Beatgrids on a crate of tracks that actually drift, and leave your hand-checked grids alone.
If you manage your library in Lexicon, the Don't touch my grids sync option keeps the beatgrids that already exist in your DJ app untouched. New tracks still get their grid from Lexicon. That is the safest setting while you try out a new grid engine. Lexicon creates a backup of your Serato database before syncing, so a sync is also a reasonable checkpoint before a big update.
Engine DJ 5.2 for the RANE SYSTEM ONE
Engine DJ 5.2 is exclusive to the RANE SYSTEM ONE. It adds Algoriddim djay Pro as an OmniSource source on iOS, macOS and Windows (Engine DJ 5.2 release notes). The release also adds a Filter Roll option to Sweep FX and a Fader FX Trigger setting, which lets you choose whether the crossfader, the channel faders or both trigger Fader FX. According to the Engine DJ community announcement, you need Engine OS 5.2.0 or higher and djay Pro 5.6.9 or higher.
If you sync from Lexicon to Engine DJ, check your Beatgrid locks option. When Engine DJ analyzes a track with an unlocked grid, it replaces the grid from Lexicon with its own. With Default or Locked, your Lexicon grids are kept and Engine only builds the waveform.
Hardware
AlphaTheta HDJ-F9 wireless DJ headphones
In mid-October AlphaTheta announced the HDJ-F9, professional on-ear headphones built around its SonicLink low-latency wireless system. AlphaTheta's published specs:
- 40 mm drivers
- 285 g without cable
- Up to 9 hours of listening over SonicLink
- SonicLink Touch Pairing for compatible gear such as the DJM-V5
Wireless cueing only works in a booth if the latency is low enough that you can beatmatch by ear. Check AlphaTheta's SonicLink FAQ for the latency figures and supported devices before you leave the cable at home.
XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO firmware 2.00
AlphaTheta released firmware 2.00 for the XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO in October. It updates how Apple Music tracks are played back. On the XDJ-AZ, Streaming Direct Play now also works with Spotify tracks. If you own either unit and stream from Apple Music, this update is not optional. See the next section.

Apple Music on AlphaTheta gear: update before April 1, 2027
rekordbox published an important notice: from April 1, 2027, Apple Music tracks can no longer be loaded on affected products unless the required update is installed. The minimum versions are:
- rekordbox for Mac/Windows 7.2.0 or later
- OMNIS-DUO firmware 2.00 or later
- XDJ-AZ firmware 2.00 or later
Update during the off-season rather than in March. If a club unit is on old firmware, plan on playing local files instead of Apple Music.
rekordbox Studio Plan brings a DAW into the DJ subscription
AlphaTheta also introduced the Studio Plan. It bundles Bitwig Studio Essentials, so you can edit and remix tracks from your rekordbox library with the track analysis data carried over. It is a standalone subscription, separate from the Free, Core, Creative and Professional plans. The Studio Plan page lists it at $7 per month or $72 per year, with a 30-day free trial. AlphaTheta says stem separation is coming in a later update.
This is the clearest sign yet that the big DJ platforms want to own the edit-and-prep workflow as well as the performance. For working DJs, that matters most for quick edits, such as intros, extended outros and clean versions, without leaving the ecosystem your grids and cues live in.
The Takeaway
Two of the three biggest stories this month are about beatgrids and streaming, the two things most likely to break when you move a library between apps. Before you update:
- Back up your library first
- Test new analysis engines on a small crate, not your whole collection
- Keep your hand-checked grids protected, whether with Don't touch my grids in Lexicon, Beatgrid locks for Engine DJ, or the equivalent in your DJ app
- Update any AlphaTheta gear you use with Apple Music well before April 2027
